HSQE and Safety Strategy
Plan Safe: Work Safe
In August 2009 Story Rail launched a strategy to 'Plan Safe: Work Safe'. This aims to create an instinctive culture throughout Story Rail with regard to Health & Safety, with an emphasis on 'Planning to Work Safely' and 'Working Safely'.
The strategy has initially been communicated through Operational Briefings and DVD presentations. The longevity of the strategy has been reinforced through the creation of a Works HSQE Forum, Site Inductions, New Starter Inductions and Poster Campaigns. Story Rail is committed to 'Plan Safe: Work Safe'.
Health and Safety
The Story Group is committed to providing a working environment that is safe and healthy for all employees and those affected by our activities. The Board is committed to the provision of strong and active leadership in such matters and has established a HSQE Department that monitors our procedures and operations to ensure the highest standards are achieved. By following this philosophy we have developed robust systems that are often applauded by our clients, and we are proud that our hard work is recognised through the winning of several awards for our safe practices.
Our Health & Safety Policy is communicated to all employees and the involvement of all individuals within the Group in the management of Health and Safety is constantly sought. The Group is actively involved in several industry led initiatives and believes that the emphasis placed on Health & Safety benefits everyone involved in our operations.

Environment
With engineering, construction, rail and development interests, Story Group know that virtually everything we undertake has some impact on the natural or built environment. As such, we are proud of our efforts to control or reduce disruption and make a positive contribution to the environment and quality of life.
Green thinking
We are proud of our achievements in reducing the carbon footprint of our businesses and in minimising our effect on the environment. Robust site waste management plans, reuse of site materials and our recycling ballast process all help to fulfil our commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the company has fitted trackers to company vans in order to reduce both pollution and fuel costs. Our plant machinery is set-up to run as silently as possible, using bio-degradable oil and reusing spent oil.
