Bridges and viaducts
|
Our portfolio includes structures throughout the LNE, LNW and Scotland territories, on projects valued between £100K and £5M. These include underbridge reconstructions, Bridgeguard 3 overbridges, footbridges, and replacing bridges by infilling. Our in-house capability is well suited to the advance works such as site compounds, access roads, piling platforms and temporary river crossings that are typically required just to get near the average rail worksite. The core works are usually done under possession. 54 hours would be typical, but we encounter anything from 8 to 108 depending on the project. For an underbridge reconstruction the first task is usually the removal of the existing permanent way, either taken away to scrap or carefully set aside if it is being re-used. Once the deck is cleared and freed from the abutments the old bridge needs to come out and depending on site conditions either a crane or a transporter would be used. The abutments would then receive attention to reduce them to their new height suitable to accept new cill beams before the new deck is positioned, drainage installed and the permanent way replaced and handed back. Our experience encompasses the wide variety of underbridge construction details that are regularly found on the infrastructure, including long timber replacement, sectional precast concrete decks on viaducts, in-situ concrete saddles, timber re-decking. Our in-house permanent way capability is ideally suited to this type of work, allowing us to offer optimum utilisation of plant and remove the interface between separate permanent way and civils contractors. |
