Replacement of longitudinal timbers in conjunction with bridge steelwork repairs.
The Contract Works involved the removal and replacement of existing track and longtimbers to the length of the bridge with further removal of track to each bridge end for the installation of new containment panels.
Prior to the core possession we carried out initial baseline and level survey works. The 54 hour core possession involved removal of existing long timbers and rail together with the removal of rail and sleepers to each bridge end using RRV’s New adjustment switches and containment panels were installed to the approaches of the bridge. Following civil works we placed new timbers into new position over the bridge deck using a crawler crane and under the direction of Story Rail Engineers Viper Baseplates were positioned along the length of the new timbers. Long Welded Rail which had been positioned in the Cess and 6ft at the start of the possession was then installed using Iron men at intervals over the bridge which were used to lift the rails simultaneously over the housings then lowered into position. In a follow up weekend shift, tamping stressing and welding took place before 2 weeks of track monitoring to ensure newly installed track remained at required line and level.
