Bradkirk Footbridge, Lancashire
Client: BIRSE RAIL
Civil engineering works to provide new abutments and piers for this footbridge replacement.
This project was carried out Plumpton, Lancashire. The project included the removal and replacement of an existing footbridge, together with installation of new foundations, pad stones and associated access improvements.
Improvement work was required to the project to facilitate access for a 200t crane onto site.
The core works consisted of removing and replacing the bridge over 3 possessions. During these possessions close liaison was required with specialist trade subcontractors, for works including vertical diamond drilling for the bridge pier walls.
A trial erection of the bridge was originally planned but this requirement was later removed due to time restrictions placed on the project by the main contractor and therefore a larger emphasis on the accuracy of the planning and the setting out, allowing no room for error.
The work was carried out successfully to the client’s satisfaction, on time and within budget.
