Gretna Station
Client: BALFOUR BEATTY
Construction of new railway station platform, coupled with refurbishment of existing platform and alterations to existing car park facilities.
Story Rail undertook the enhancement works of the picturesque Gretna Station on behalf of Balfour Beatty Rail Projects. These works were done in conjunction with Balfour Beatty’s multi million pound re-doubling of the Annan – Gretna line.
The project consisted of the construction of a new platform and refurbishment of the existing platform. Associated works included extension to the existing car park together with minor improvements to pedestrian access, drainage and landscaping. Attendance was also provided to the erection of a new footbridge, providing pedestrian access for all users.
Story Rail worked closely with the main contractor to overcome various constraints. Access to the new platform, although originally intended to be by road, was subsequently done by rail; a challenge which Story Rail was able to meet thanks to our extensive in-house fleet of road rail plant. As the project evolved and progressed, changes to the platform design were able to be incorporated and, in addition, the presence of services on site were effectively and safely managed. Our flexible approach and extensive experience allowed us to accommodate these necessary changes and still deliver the works on time.
